Congratulations Mike!!!!

I sent in an essay to nominate Mike for a Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service "GIVE Award" I thought it would be good PR for the Coffee House. I was still surprised when we got the call that he has been chosen for the Achievement by Adults (19-59) for 2007. We have to go to Jackson on the 18th April for a luncheon with the Governor and First Lady. A camera crew will be coming to Fulton to take footage for a video to be shown at the luncheon. Mike does a lot of the behind the scenes work at the Coffee House, he sorts out the problems kids have, parents etc. It's not all fun. I thought this might be a well deserved pat on the back for him that I know he is deserving of. He hates being in the limelight but it will be a fun day out. For Mum and Dad here is a bit more about the Give Award:

History of the GIVE Awards The GIVE (Governor's Initiative for Volunteer Excellence) Awards were begun in 1993 by former First Lady Patricia O. Fordice and Governor Kirk Fordice to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of Mississippi's volunteers. Since 1993, over 100 individuals and organizations have been recognized with a GIVE Award.Purpose of the GIVE Awards The GIVE Awards are presented by the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service in cooperation with the Office of the Governor. These awards recognize individuals, organizations, or communities for volunteer efforts which have made a significant difference to the state or to local communities, establishing high standards for volunteer involvement and effectiveness and multiplying resources for communities. The GIVE Awards will be presented on April 18, 2007 in Jackson at "Reinventing Mississippi: The Conference for Nonprofits and Volunteers." Website is http://www.mcvs.org
