Coffee House News

I thought I would try and share more about the Coffee House. I know when Mum calls and asks how the weekend went, I usually say fine meaning no problems occurred but really there is more that goes on and I thought I would try and make a conscious effort this weekend to document it more.

Below one of the kids is enjoying a tasty meal prepared by Mike. We have food on the Menu each week, hot dogs, meatball subs, shakes, nachos and cheese etc. but Mike usually makes some famous Southern cuisine Corn Bread, Beans and Rice and the kids get this free if they want it. This was Friday night when we had 60 kids show up. Saturday we had 58.

Three of the girls Saturday Night!

One of the boys had spent the night with a friend and stayed up all night playing video games so he was happy to just catch some zzzzs on the couch.
Mike encourages the kids to play games like chess, risk etc. not just PlayStation games and it seems to have payed off.
More of the girls Friday night!
Mike and I. I wasn't feeling good in this photo, allergies acting up.
Saturday Mike cooked some lamb for the kids. Most of them had never tasted lamb before. They wrapped it up in a tortilla with Ranch Dressing. This was the free food for Saturday! Below the grill is the winter time cooking station that Mike and the kids would burn wood, keep warm and cook rice on.
This is one of the kids showing up at the Coffee House with her Dad!
I made some home made Cadbury like Cream Eggs. The kids loved them but most of them had never had one before to know how much like the real thing they were. I couldn't get the egg shape quite right but they were just like them in taste. If you want the recipe email me.
Saturday we had an Easter Egg Hunt at the Coffee House. It didn't last long. The first three kids that showed up found them within 10 minutes. We will have to think of a better way of doing this next year.
In the coming week or two we will be changing out the Advisory Board member of Carrie's Coffee House. The present ones have served for 4 years. I'm thinking it will be a positive change as we hope to get some of the kids parents on the board. I'm looking forward to good things happening ahead.

The video is a good example of the music the kids play at the Coffee House. This was Saturday night

That was a good idea to take these photographs. Thank you for taking the time to do so. I do not want the recipe for the easter eggs as Dad and I would end up eating them all! At church the minister's son, 2 years old, found one of the hidden eggs before the service started! We grilled lamb yesterday but it wasn't as tender as it should have been. Love Mum
